A Message from Snell Team
STEAM Fair
"We are thrilled to share the success of our STEAM Fair held on 8th September! The event was a fantastic showcase of creativity and innovation, with students from across the school presenting an impressive range of projects. It was heartening to see so many parents and whānau attending and supporting our young innovators. From card shuffling to feeding fish, the creativity on display was truly inspiring.
A big mihi to our dedicated teachers who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to guide and support our students in bringing their ideas to life. Your hard work and passion for teaching make such a difference in our students' learning journeys.
We also want to extend our gratitude to the parents and whānau who lent a helping hand, whether it was through assisting with projects, offering encouragement, or simply being there to celebrate the achievements of our tamariki. Your involvement is invaluable and greatly appreciated.
Thank you to everyone who participated, came and visited and made the event a memorable one. We can't wait to see what our talented students come up with next year!"

All four of our teams performed exceptionally well, showcasing their mathematical prowess and teamwork. We are incredibly proud of their efforts and the way they represented our school with such enthusiasm and determination.
A huge congratulations to each member of our teams for their hard work and dedication in preparing for the competition. Your commitment to excellence and passion for mathematics was evident in your outstanding performance.
Thank you to the teachers and staff who supported and guided our teams throughout their preparation, and to the parents and whānau who encouraged and cheered them on. Your support is invaluable and deeply appreciated.
Well done to all involved, and we look forward to seeing our students continue to excel in future competitions!"

The Kohimarama Way - Aroha/Compassion
"Be kind, for everyone is fighting a battle." "We are all different. Don't judge, understand instead." Roy T. Bennett. Sometimes we can get so caught up in our busy day to day lives and best way of doing a task. These sayings hopefully make us pause and reflect on the fact that we never know what another person is going through or dealing with at any one particular moment in time - a reminder to be compassionate because most people don't wake up each morning thinking about how they can muck up our days.
The Secrets of the Pohutukawa Tree - School Production
Synopsis: On the grounds of Kohimarama School, overlooking the adventure playground lies a large gnarly and twisted Pohutakawa tree.
This tree seems harmless. Just decoration. Just a great place for shade. Just a place to hang out underneath at break time.
But as 5 students discover, it holds wondrous secrets! The students unlock the once banished Tūrehu, an ancient tree fairy who takes them into worlds beyond their wildest imagination. Will they come back for block 3? Will they solve the troubles in the lands? What will become of the tree fairy now she has been set free?
Our students and Teams are practising really well and our Production is coming together. Our evening performances are now sold out, but we do have lots of seats available for the Matinees: Cast A on Tuesday 16th September at 11.30 and Cast B on Wednesday 17th September at 11.30am.
For the evening performances we are asking students in Cowley, Hillary and Snell Teams to be dropped off to school at 5.15 pm and Kiri students at 5.30 pm please. If you have children in both Kiri and another team, drop them both off at 5.15 pm, we don't expect you to do a double drop off.
For the evening performances:
- Kiri students will go to Learning Space 18
- Hillary students will go to Learning Spaces 19 and 20
- Cowley students will go to Learning Space 21
- Snell students will go to Learning Spaces 22 and 23
Children are able to be picked up from these Learning Spaces at the conclusion of the Production. We are expecting the Production to approximately run from 6.00 - 7.15 pm. There is a setting the scene introduction by the main characters, followed by Act 1 - Land of misfit fairy tales (Hillary Team), followed by Act 2 - The land of pearls and plankton (Cowley Team), followed by Act 3 - The land behind the ‘End Curtain’ (Snell Team), followed by Act 4 - Land of the Odd Socks and then the Finale.

Library News
We’ve had a busy and fun Term 3 in the Library with our new Librarian, Steph Matheson. As usual there have been lots of activities for students to take part in during every Big Break. Classrooms have also been using their weekly allocated library time with their classroom teacher which provides another chance for students to browse, read and select books to borrow.
Our top three borrowing classes so far this term are:
- 1st place: LS10 with 133 books issued
- 2nd place: LS08 with 117 books issued
- 3rd place: LS13 with 113 books issued
Well done - that’s a lot of books!!
If you’d like to know more about which books are popular and recommended, or want to find out which books your child has been enjoying, get in touch with our librarian Steph at smatheson@kohimarama.

Tessa and Monica from Year 4 did some reading to some Year 1 students in the Library on Tuesdays. Such a great way for them to share their love of reading!

Unfortunately they didn't quite manage to get a top three placing, with 1st place going to Churchill Park, 2nd St Thomas's, and 3rd equal St Heliers and Parnell.
