A Message from Snell Team
Year Six Camp Was a Blast!
We had GREAT instructors, and the activities were awesome! The activities included survival, rock climbing, horse riding, kayaking, flying fox, low ropes, and archery. On the last day, we had Iron Person, and on Thursday night, we had the concert (which was hilarious!) and the disco!
In survival, we pretended we had escaped a crashed plane and were stuck in the wilderness. We built a huge SOS out of logs, then built shelters and started a campfire. Can’t forget the mud run! THEN we cooked our dinner. Survival lasted a day, and three groups did it, while the other activities were rotations.
In rock climbing, there was a big climbing wall, and we climbed it—it’s in the name! In horse riding, we brushed the horses, walked the pony Britney, and rode the horse Cooper in the horse arena.
In kayaking, we got into our togs, walked down to the lake, and learned how to go forwards, backwards, stop, and turn left and right.
In flying fox (my favourite activity!), we put on our harnesses, got a zipline sling, attached the sling to the wire, and we were off!
In low ropes, we did some collaborative games. In archery, we did archery.
In Iron Person, we ran around the lake and tackled some obstacles.
At the camp concert, each group performed a short play, and then we had the disco—it was so much fun!
Overall, camp was the best!
Thank you for reading.

Student Leader's Conference
On Wednesday 19th March, 52 students, Mr Viggo, Mrs Mills and Miss Hill went over to Albany to attend a one day conference designed to support student leaders in their leadership role. We couldn't have taken advantage of this opportunity with out our fabulous parent drivers, thank you for your support. Over the day we learnt several things and were involved in a variety of activities.
Session One: The responsibilities of a student leader
- Being an example to others.
- Reponsibility is more than following a rule it's about taking ownership for the standards of our school
- Being a helper to others
- Being a voice for others
- Being willing to do what the school needs
Session Two: Leadership through friendship
- Being a leader is not about priveleges it's about people
- Conversations are more effective than instructions
- Sharing responsibility is more important than showing off responsibility
- Fun is more effective than feeling forced
Session Three: Leadership is not about my status, it's about my service
- Helping others who already look up to you
- Helpings others to be part of a like minded group
- Helping others who are outside the school
To ensure we fulfill the task we intend as leaders, they gave us some tips:
- Prioritise the idea that helps others the most
- Be realistic from the start
- Break down the idea into stages
- Work on the idea together

Learning Snapshots
Bookings close - Tuesday 8th at midday
Our upcoming Learning Conversations provide a valuable opportunity to share an up-to-date picture of where your child is currently in their learning journey. These conversations also allow us to discuss the next learning goals, ensuring that we are all on the same page - parents, teachers and students alike. In some cases, the teacher and student will be leading these discussions.
We encourage all families to book a time to meet with their child’s teacher on one of the following dates:
Wednesday 9th April – 1:30pm to 6:00pm
Thursday 10th April – 3:15pm to 8:00pm
The link is open to book your appointment via School Interviews - https://www.
Please note that school will close at 1:00pm on Wednesday 9th April to accommodate these conversations.
If your child is unable to be picked up at this time, please complete this form by Friday 4th April so we can make necessary arrangements.
We look forward to connecting with you and continuing to support your child’s learning journey together.
Kohimarama School Book Fair 2025
Well the Book Fair is off to a great start with some large numbers through the library so far. Thank you to everyone that has visited us and we look forward to seeing more of you.
We have added an additional session - the Book Fair will now be open from 3.30-7.30pm on Thursday 10th April to coordinate with the second Learner Conversation evening so you have more time to shop.
Kohimarama School gets 35% of the total book fair sales to spend on books for the school so you are supporting a great cause.
Don’t forget you can also donate a book to the school library and create a legacy. We have specially designed slips to place in donated books to record your family details and date of donation.

Sports News
Eastern Zones and Bay Suburbs Interschool Swimming Competitions
Last week, our Kohimarama School swimmers proudly represented us at the Eastern Zones and Bay Suburbs Inter School Swimming Competitions. Congratulations to all the students who were selected for these events following our school swimming sports. Both teams put in fantastic performances, demonstrating skill, determination, and great sportsmanship.
A special acknowledgment goes to our swimmers who placed in the Bay Suburbs competition, earning them a spot at the Auckland Championship event. We are incredibly proud of their efforts and wish them all the best as they prepare for the next level of competition.
A big thank you to the parents who assisted with transport, supervision, and organisation at the events. Your support ensures our students have the opportunity to compete and excel.
Well done to all our swimmers—you have represented Kohimarama School with pride.

Weet-bix TRYathlon
Well done to the nearly 50 students who participated in the Weet-bix TRYathlon at Point England on Sunday! What a fantastic effort by you all.
Thank you to Rebecca Smith and Chris Pickering for taking the school gazebo there and back - it sounds like we need two gazebos next year, given the number of families who used the spot as their hub for the event.
We will explore how we can make even more of an occasion for the participants and their supporters next year.

MAD ABOUT BOOKS?
If you haven’t been through the book fair in the library yet, be sure to make time over the next 2 weeks. Claire has once again pulled together a wonderful fair. Thank you Claire for your time, energy and commitment on it each year.
Claire will be leaving us at the end of this year as her daughter progresses through to the next stages in her schooling journey. We have been so very lucky to have had Claire lead the Book fair for some time. It would be a shame to let this fade away so we'd love to know if anyone would care to take it on.
If you have a passion for books or a group of you have a book club on the go, this could be a nice addition, We would love to hear from you. Pop us an email on kohimaramapta@gmail.com
