Programmes to Enrich and Encourage Inclusivity

Kohimarama School has a number of special programmes that support learners in a variety of ways inside and outside the core curriculum areas.

Enrichment Programmes - these are designed to enhance the learners in interesting and challenging ways.

  • EPro 8      
  • Literature Quiz
  • Mathex
  • Future Problem Solving 

Intervention Programmes  - these are programmes are designed specifically for students who need support with their learning. They are run by our learner assistants and RTLB services

  • Word Chain
  • SPRING into Maths
  • Feuerstein
  • ESOL classes

EOTC - these are programmes that take the learning outside of the school 

  • Camps - Year 4 have a one night sleep based in the school

                      - Year 5 have a 1 night, 2 day camp

                      - Year 6 have a 3 night, 4 day camp

                      - Year 7/8 have a biannual camp in the even year at Camp Adair and in odd years they complete the 

                         William Pike Challenge

  • Class trips that are linked to the learning in the classroom.These take place at least once a term. 

Music - Opportunities designed to support the arts

  •  There are elective opportunities for students to come out of class and learn an instrument during

           the school day should a family wish for this 

  • There are Kapa Haka, Cheerleading and Choir groups available for any student who chooses to take part  

Year 7 and 8 special programmes

  • Technology - lessons for hard materials, food, etc. These are undertaken at Selwyn College weekly,  on Tuesday afternoons.
  • Second Language - in the intermediate years the curriculum requires students to experience a second language. At Kohimarama School we teach Spanish as our second language
  • Biannual William Pike Challenge

Leadership Programmes for year 6, 7 and 8 

There are a number of leadership opportunities for ākonga at Kohimarama School. 

These leadership roles are as follows

  • Ākonga councilors
  • House Captains
  • Ambassadors
  • Librarians
  • Peer Mediators
  • Sports councilors

We encourage our ākonga in Snell team to take on leadership roles as they provide them with opportunities to enhance their skills in public speaking, problem solving, teamwork and negotiation . These roles help them to build respectful relationships, make connections  connections and have a sense of belonging while building their own awareness of self as a citizen within our school community.

Our leaders are expected to model the Kohimarama Way at all times.
