Newsletter Term 1 Week 3 2025 - Independent Assessment

These are important questions, and rather than relying solely on our own observations, we turn to independent, externally conducted studies that benchmark our school’s performance against others at both national and international levels.

Independent Assessments Confirm Our Success

In 2024, we received results from two key studies that provide an objective measure of student progress:

  1. Curriculum Insights and Progress Study – A nationwide assessment of student achievement in New Zealand.
  2. Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) – An international study that benchmarks New Zealand schools in mathematics and science.

These assessments are conducted by independent researchers, including the University of Otago, with randomly selected students participating. The results offer a valuable comparison of our achievement against schools with similar characteristics and national norms, helping us track progress over time.

Key Insight:

TIMSS confirms that our students don’t just perform above the national average – they perform above schools with similar characteristics.
