A Message from the Principal
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Learner Agency: A Key Driver of Student Success
At Kohimarama School, we know that learner agency, combined with high-quality teaching, is fundamental to student success. When students take ownership of their learning—setting goals, making decisions, and reflecting on their progress—they develop the skills and confidence to thrive academically and beyond.
Through The Kohimarama Way, we ensure that agency is explicitly taught and embedded in our learning spaces. This approach empowers students to take an active role in their learning while being supported by evidence-based teaching practices. The result? High levels of achievement across both national and international assessments, including TIMSS (OECD) and Curriculum Insights. Video Link (assessment data previously distributed)
Our commitment to learner agency is reflected in the strong academic outcomes of our students and their ability to navigate challenges with independence and resilience. To see how this comes to life in our learning spaces, we invite you to watch our Learner Agency at Kohimarama School video: Learner Agency
Thank you for your continued support in fostering an environment where students take ownership of their learning and strive for excellence.
Bizzy Bodz Before & After School Care
We are pleased to see the Bizzy Bodz before and after school care programme thriving at Kohimarama School. In less than two terms, it has grown to support up to 10 students in the morning and 30 plus students in the afternoon, providing a safe, engaging, and structured environment for our learners.
Families have shared wonderful feedback about the quality of the staff and the range of activities offered, both during term time and in the holiday programme. With a focus on active play and structured routines—including dedicated time for homework—Bizzy Bodz helps ease the pressures of a busy day for both students and parents.
We encourage families to take advantage of this fantastic service and look forward to our continued partnership with Bizzy Bodz.

The Kohimarama Way - Respect/Whakaute
"Everyone in society should be a role model, not only for their own self-respect but for respect from others." Barry Bonds. Think of this like doing the 'right' thing even when no one is looking. We all know right from wrong, we all know respect from disrespect - mistakes are made, apologies are free and make a real difference to the person receiving the apology. Remember, if you don't respect yourself, no one else will either.
Atkin House Colour Day

New Library Furniture!!
Our school library has a new lease of life with some new furniture that arrived last Wednesday. Chenelle, our School Librarian along with our Lead Student Librarians Kaylie, Lithuli and Ryan, have spent time rearranging the library to make the best use our new shelving and seating options. As a result, the school library is a more inviting and welcoming place to be where books are celebrated. Thank you to the PTA for your support in purchasing this furniture and enabling us to brighten up the space and make it more functional for our learners.

Music Lessons
"Singing, songwriting, guitar and ukelele lessons available during school hours on Wednesdays with Mikaela Coughlan, please email mikaelacoughlan@live.com to grab a slot and get details! "
Book Day - Wednesday 2nd April

This will be a fun day with all things 'book'. We are all dressing up as a book character, we will be 'stopping, dropping and reading' throughout the day, each Learning Space will be writing part of a story that will come together in the end, House points will be given out for finding book characters hidden around the school and so much more. Claire Frazerhurst from the PTA has organised a fabulous Scholastic Book Fair where you can purchase books for your children too, not to be missed.
Kohimarama School Book Fair 2025

Hello School Community,
We have only 1.5 weeks until our Book Fair kicks off!!!! This has been such a popular event the last two years and we are looking to make it even better this year. Sophie from Room 13 just loved the Book Fair, as you can see from her wee note:
Flyers and wish lists will come home with your child next week so please keep an eye out for those. The wish list is a great way of purchasing from the Book Fair if you can't come along in person.
We still need more helpers to run the Book Fair. If you can assist with either being a cashier or a costume wearer (costume provided) for this event please sign up via the link below (please don’t forget to add your phone number). Note the costumes are adult sized but would also be ok for a child in Year 7 or 8. If your child is in year 7 or 8 and wishes to assist please feel free to sign them up as well.

Learning Snapshots
Our upcoming Learning Conversations provide a valuable opportunity to share an up-to-date picture of where your child is currently in their learning journey. These conversations also allow us to discuss the next learning goals, ensuring that we are all on the same page - parents, teachers and students alike. In some cases, the teacher and student will be leading these discussions.
We encourage all families to book a time to meet with their child’s teacher on one of the following dates:
Wednesday 9th April – 1:30pm to 6:00pm
Thursday 10th April – 3:15pm to 8:00pm
The link is open to book your appointment via School Interviews - https://www.
Please note that school will close at 1:00pm on Wednesday 9th April to accommodate these conversations.
If your child is unable to be picked up at this time, please complete this form by Friday 4th April so we can make necessary arrangements.
We look forward to connecting with you and continuing to support your child’s learning journey together.

Weet-bix TRYathlon - 30 March 2025
We've had a great number of students registering to take part in the Weet-bix Tryathlon at Point England on 30 March. What we need now are some helpers to take the school gazebo to Point England, set it up as a base for the participants and their supporters, take it down at the end and return it to school. Supporters may also want to think about taking along your chairs and camping tables or the likes.
Please email Antonia at sports@kohimarama.school.nz if you can help in any way.
Thank you!
