A Message from Kiri Team
Kia ora,
Our first week has been very busy with children excited to be back at school, see their friends and keen to learn.
Kiri Team has started their Inquiry called ‘Creative Construction’
This is all about designing with a purpose, and being creative. This immediately ignited a lot of enthusiasm. Kiri Team will be looking into the design of everyday machines as well as the design of a Māori Pā .
This week children started designing and constructing. Learning Spaces 1 and 2 have been busy constructing hats with a purpose. Each hat comes with at least one special feature and plenty of creativity. The children have been very proud to explain the reasoning behind their designs.

Learning Space 3 have been busy constructing safe homes for their soft toys. They planned in their paste books, thinking about the roof, walls and different rooms. Then they used a variety of materials to assemble their homes. There are some very cute results. I think the soft toys agreed.

Learning Space 4 started the term by looking at the shapes of sunflowers, their colours and design. They have created paintings of sunflowers very much like Vincent van Gogh’s series. Even five and six year olds can successfully manage a still life painting. Quite remarkable. Perhaps we do have some Vincent's in Kiri Team!

Learning Space five have constructed cameras and created reels of film with pictures showing highlights from their holidays. This is a very fun and innovative way for the children to share and display their work.

Ngā mihi

The Kohimarama Way - Honest/Matatika
Honesty is important because it builds trust. When people lie, or cover up mistakes, others can't trust them. When people aren't honest with themselves, they pretend that something doesn't matter when it does or they exaggerate to impress others. When you are honest with yourself, you accept yourself as you are. When you are honest, others can believe you.
Important Notice from the Principal
A Possible Nationwide Strike involving school teachers, learner assistants and administration staff could occur on Thursday 23rd October. The action would be initiated by the New Zealand Education Institute (NZEI). As yet we have not had an official communication of strike action, due to last minute bargaining.
The school has calculated the number of staff who are NZEI members and who would be required to strike. At the Board meeting last night it was resolved that there will be insufficient teachers on-site to run a normal school programme. Therefore the school would close for instruction.
The Board is requesting that should the strike be called that all students remain home on Thursday 23rd October. The school will distribute a Google Form to ascertain if some parents will require supervision for their children because of essential work commitments.
We understand that industrial action will be disruptive and thank you for your co-operation in this matter which is outside of our control.
We will update you as soon as we receive updated information.
Parent Survey
We invite you to take part in this short survey to help us understand how we’re progressing in meeting the needs and aspirations of our students, families, and wider community.
The survey will take approximately 3-5 minutes to complete, and your feedback is invaluable in helping us make improvements.
All responses are anonymous and we encourage you to share your thoughts with us by Sunday 19th October 2025.

Athletics Day for Years 4 - 8 on Wednesday 5th November 2025

We would like to extend a big thank you to one of our parents who is kindly assisting us with the relocation arrangements.
More details will be shared with you in due course.
Thursday 16th October - National Earthquake Drill day
We will be joining close to a million registered New Zealanders on Thursday, practising what to do in the event of an earthquake.
