A Message from Hillary Team
Speeches in Hillary Team
Year 4 Speeches
The last few weeks have been busy but fun. We have been running Cross Country and working on speeches. I wrote my persuasive speech about ‘Why Mexican food is the best. It was my first time writing a speech. I enjoyed listening to the Hillary Team final as well as the school final. I am already looking forward to writing my speech in Year 5.

My speech was on social media. One of the things I found hard was finding my topic. I had a few in mind, and then I realised I wanted to do a speech that stood out, so I thought, how about social media for a speech? Sadly, I didn't get into the Year 4 finals. When we went to the school speech final with Year 5, 6, 7, and 8, I felt happy and proud of my brother because he got in and he did a very good job.

Year 5 Speeches
How can we protect our beautiful whenua, our land? Well, there are lots of ways you can find out - just listen to the Year 5 speeches!
What I thought was amazing about the speeches was that all of them were different but connected. Some focused on sustainability and others on humanity and wellbeing. Every student was thinking about their future and how whenua is affected if we don’t look after it.
I found it a fun topic to work with. I enjoyed writing a speech that allowed me to share my talent with my peers and teachers.
One thing I found hard was to keep track of my time when I said my speech aloud in front of people. As soon as the pressure came on and people were watching me, I got nervous and rushed!
In conclusion, I believe that delivering speeches was a valuable experience for me, as it has significantly built my self-confidence. Next time, I will practise more to gather more courage.

The Kohimarama Way - Aroha/Compassion
Compassion begins by noticing when someone seems sad or troubled. Put yourself in their place and ask how you would feel if it were happening to you. Think about how you can help. Take time to listen, and then say kind things like "What are you sad about?" and "How can I help you?" Be forgiving when others make mistakes. Be a friend when someone needs a friend.

Student Fundraiser - Friday 8th August for the Cancer Society

We are asking students to support the Cancer Society this term by bringing $2 and wearing mufti (weekend clothes) with mismatching socks. The socks could be a different colour, a different brand, one could be short, the other long, or.... We are just wanting to have a bit of fun as we raise money to support individuals and families in need.
