A Message from the Principal
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Last Wednesday, 23 July, we held our much-anticipated whole-school Cross Country event at Madill’s Farm. Despite a crisp and chilly start to the morning, we were fortunate to have a beautiful winter’s day—clear skies and sunshine which created the ideal conditions for running and spectating.
This event was the culmination of weeks of effort by our students, who committed to training and improving their endurance and performance in the lead-up to the day. Many students set personal goals to improve their times and build their stamina, reflecting our focus on self-improvement and perseverance.
While the event itself carried a competitive element, it was, more importantly, a celebration of dedication, resilience, and personal achievement. It was wonderful to see the pride and determination on students’ faces as they crossed the finish line—each one embodying the Kohimarama values in action.
I am appreciative of the teamwork demonstrated across our school. Staff executed a calm, well-structured, and enjoyable day that ensured a positive experience for all. Their collaboration, attention to detail, and support for our students reflect The Kohimarama Way, where commitment, reliability, respect, and collaboration were seen in action.
Thanks to the PTA for coordinating with Eastern Suburbs Football to have the café open for the event. It added a warm community feel and provided a welcome treat for families and supporters.
A sincere thank you to the many parents who joined us on the day. Your presence and encouragement mean a great deal to our learners.
Preparations are now underway for the upcoming Eastern Zone and Bay Suburbs Cross Country events, where selected students will represent our school.

Celebrating Excellence – Eastern Zone Gymnastics Success
In addition to our Cross Country achievements, we’re delighted to share the outstanding results from the Eastern Zone Gymnastics Competition, held earlier.
A special congratulations to Zoe F, who placed 1st overall, and to Georgia P, who achieved a commendable 6th place.
We also commend our Years 3–6 competitors who performed with courage and pride throughout the day. Notably, the following students placed in the top 8 and have now qualified for the Championships at Tristar on 4th September:
- Avni J – 5th in Year 3 Girls
- Olivia B – 6th in Year 3 Girls (an especially impressive effort as Olivia is currently in Year 2!)
- Matilda B – 7th in Year 4 Girls
As always, we are proud to see our learners strive for excellence across a variety of disciplines. Their achievements remind us that success comes not only from talent, but from sustained effort, focus, and a willingness to grow.
The following team was in the top 3, which means they will also go through to the championships:
Avni J, Olivia B, Tyla H, Saffi B - 3rd Team, year 3 girls.

The Kohimarama Way - Aroha/Compassion
Compassion begins by noticing when someone seems sad or troubled. Put yourself in their place and ask how you would feel if it were happening to you. Think about how you can help. Take time to listen, and then say kind things like "What are you sad about?" and "How can I help you?" Be forgiving when others make mistakes. Be a friend when someone needs a friend.

Student Fundraiser - Friday 8th August for the Cancer Society
We are asking students to support the Cancer Society this term by bringing $2 and wearing mufti (weekend clothes) with mismatching socks. The socks could be a different colour, a different brand, one could be short, the other long, or.... We are just wanting to have a bit of fun as we raise money to support individuals and families in need.

Thank you for supporting our AIMs Games fundraiser!
A huge thank you to everyone who came along to support our AIMs Games fundraiser on Sunday, it was a fantastic day and a real team effort!
With 63 cars washed, plus loads of baking, coffee and sausages sold, we were thrilled with the turnout and the community support, and the weather couldn’t have been better. Our Year 8 futsal boys and the parents, with help from Isaac W worked incredibly hard for three solid hours on the cars.
And a big shout-out to Grant Sewell from Wet&Forget Mt Wellington for the generous donation of Petrol Head car wash and Magnif wheel cleaner.
A special thank you to the Year 7 and 8 girls who helped on the bake sale table and we’re also very grateful to our school caretaker, Shannon for helping with setup and sorting the alarm.
To everyone who came along, bought something or got their car washed we thank you for your help getting the boys to AIMs Games next month.

“I saw the excited kid outside the school holding the sign with so much energy that I had to turn around and come back for a car wash. It was awesome to see so many kids and parents involved—there were heaps of cars being washed! The kids did a great job, and it felt really good to support something local.” – Alexis Poulter
