A Message from the Deputy Principals
Thank you
Our students are fortunate to have a plethora of adults supporting them. These adults are in our students' corner, alongside our amazing teachers on a daily basis. The photos of these wonderful supporters and the bullet points of what they do are only a small representation of this incredible group of people who work tirelessly for all of our students. We thank them sincerely and are grateful that they are part of our team.
- small group or 1-1 support for their learning
- a bright smile and welcome when needing a prickle removed, stopping a bleed, headache remedies or providing a sick bag
- having a safe, cheerful and motivating space to go with their class as well as fun activities during every big break, each day of the week
- safe playgrounds, warm learning spaces when they arrive and fetcher of stray balls on our roof

Writers festival 2025
On Tuesday and Wednesday some of our year 5-8 students attended the Writers festival at the Aotea Centre. They listened to some inspiring authors and some of our senior students attended workshops. Many of our students were lucky to meet their favourite authors in person and get autographs too.
Some of our favourites were:
- James Russell (Children of the Rush and Dragon Defender series books) - talking about layering detail and adding tension. He taught us how to make characters real and settings pop. Did you know that it took him the same length of time to write a 32 page picture book as it did to write a 200 page fiction book?
- Stacy Gregg (Pony club secrets, Nine girls and the Last Journey) - talking about getting started in your writing with a plan for your beginning, middle and end. Even if it changes you have to start somewhere. She taught us to write about something we know lots about then research and embellish and blow it up until you have your story.
- Jessica Townsend (Nevermoor series) - it took her 10 years to finish her first book! She told us to feed your brain with literature; books, movies, radio, tv, poetry and art. Get your ideas from the experiences you have.
- Anders Sparring and Per Gustavsson (The Pinchers series) - This Swedish author/ illustrator act decided there were too many books about children solving crimes and wanted to write stories about children committing them instead. Their hilarious act taught us to stop worrying about what others think and to explore our imaginations and write about the things we want to.
It was a great day out!

PTA News
With just over 5 weeks left in Term 2, we are looking ahead to the following year. As mentioned, Both Alan and I will be stepping down as PTA Co-Chairs with a hand over later this year.
This means that the 2026 event calendar will need new leadership and fresh ideas. We’ve both really enjoyed helping with the PTA over the last few years. It is a lot of fun and very rewarding, and a great way to be connected with the school community.
We're inviting anyone interested in taking the reins of the PTA for the next Two years to consider stepping into the following roles:
- Chair or Co-Chair
- Secretary
There is an amazing army of volunteers across the school that help with all of the above, but it does need a small group of parents to oversee and keep everyone connected.
Alan and I are still going to be here and are very keen to help with the transition later this year and into next year.
If you are interested, Please reach out and get involved with the PTA sooner than later. If you have any questions, We'd be happy to chat with you about it.
Valerie and Alan
