Thank you to everyone who took the time to share your thoughts and feedback in our 2024 Community Engagement Survey. Your insights help us reflect and are an invaluable input into the school’s annual planning. Here’s a brief summary of what you told us.
Satisfaction is on the rise
- 79% of parents are satisfied or very satisfied with Kohimarama School (up from 73% in 2023)
- Our Net Promoter Score increased from 15 to 29, which is a very positive result
- Satisfaction is strongest among families with experience of other schools
What matters most to you
Curriculum
- A strong focus on core learning: reading, writing, maths and science - Many parents expressed a strong desire for the school to prioritise core subjects such as reading, writing, and maths.
- More opportunities for students in creative arts and STEM - Parents are eager to see a greater emphasis on creative arts, including music, drama, and visual arts, alongside a broader focus on STEM subjects
- A balanced approach that nurtures personal growth, creativity and wellbeing
There has been a noticeable improvement in satisfaction with the music curriculum and the arts. Along with STEM and the core curriculum, these remain the areas with the lowest satisfaction.
Communication
- Better communication about your child’s progress
There has been a slight improvement in satisfaction with communication compared with last year. Parents are mostly concerned with communication about their children’s progress and more timely updates on school activities and curriculum plans.
Inclusion & breadth
- A supportive, inclusive environment for all learners - There is significant feedback advocating for a holistic approach to education that values both academic achievement and personal growth. Parents want more opportunities for real-life learning, outdoor activities, and fostering creativity while ensuring that children’s unique interests and talents are nurtured.
