Inquiry- Migration-Aotearoa New Zealand Histories
This term Kiri Team is learning about Migration. To introduce this concept we are using migration stories narrated by a godwit bird named Nelly. Nelly the godwit, is a perfect bird to explain migration. These birds travel an epic 7,000 miles from Alaska to New Zealand without stopping for food or water, truly incredible! We will be learning about how and why people migrated to New Zealand, past and present and even design a waka.
Room 1 and 2 produced some writing about Pyjama Day to raise awareness for Autism. Please enjoy reading our stories about the pyjamas we will be wearing.
Room 3 read a story called ‘We are all strong’. They talked about the things that make us feel strong and wrote about them. We are all strong for different reasons!
Room 4 worked on some Easter Art and enjoyed eating our bunny biscuits!
Discovery Learning
We are excited to have purchased a new water trough and our water wall is being fixed! Thank you to ‘The Men's Shed’ Now the tamariki can have time building boats and exploring floating and sinking.
Kiri Sport-This term we have started big ball skills with a focus on netball and soccer. This is being combined with a fitness circuit to music and an old favourite during the winter-Folk Dance.
Pyjama Day Was a great success!!
I like pyjama day because…
‘It is fun,’ said Daniel
‘Everyone is dressed up in my favourite things,’ said Amani
‘All of my friends can see my pyjamas,’ said Alasdair
‘It is kind and caring because we are raising money,’ said Noah
‘Because everyone gets to wear what they want,’ said Arisha
Welcome to our new students and their families who are starting this term.

The Kohimarama Way - Committed
Being committed means you think carefully about what you want to do, deciding to do it, then giving it 100%, holding nothing back. you don't allow problems to stop you. You go the extra mile. You only make promises you can keep. Being a committed friend is choosing your friends wisely, and then sticking together through good times or bad. Commitment makes you trustworthy. It leads to success.

Pink Shirt Day - Friday 19th May
Pink Shirt Day is just around the corner! On Friday the 19th of May everyone is invited to wear something pink to school as we join with other school communities and organisations in taking a stand against bullying. In wearing something pink, we are showing that we all are making a commitment to creating a safe and inclusive environment for all, and it also reminds us to be accepting and compassionate. In all classes, teachers will be discussing the issues concerned and the importance of being an 'upstander' rather than being a 'bystander'. Let's stand up against bullying and make a colourful statement of unity on Pink Shirt Day!
