A Message from our Deputy Principals
Student Leader Thank You Day
Last Friday 114 Snell Team students who have held Leadership role positions in the school during 2024 were invited to Rainbow's End. This was to acknowledge and say thank you to them for their reliability, commitment and the respect that they have shown in their roles throughout the year. You may have come across them on Road Patrol or heard from your child/ren about how the Peer Mediators helped them in the playground, or the Librarians who read to them or found the a book in the library, or seen the Student Councillors emcee in assemblies or appreciated them hosting fundraisers, or seen the House Captains announce the winning teams at assemblies and run the House colour day or the Sports Councillors providing PE equipment during break times to support your child/ren at play. These student leaders contribute positively to the day to day running of our school and make it the great place it is. They give up considerable amounts of their own time to complete these roles and we value their service. Thank you to the parents who also attended, without your support the day would not have occurred.
The Kohimarama Way - Commitment (Manawanui)
"There's a difference between interest and commitment. When you're interested in doing something, you do it only when it's convenient. When you're committed to something, you accept no excuses; only results." Kenneth Blanchard

Final Assembly - Changes to trophies going home
A large number of our trophies have a special and specific history associated with them. In order to preserve these for future generations we have purchased two trophy cabinets, which you may have already seen in the office area. This year for Final Assembly students who receive their trophies will be given a medal and the trophy on stage, they will come off stage and have their photo taken with the trophy and medal. This allows us to honour each student individually and recognise the significant achievement or contribution they have made to Kohimarama School. By photographing each recipient we have a record for all to look back on. After the photo students will be asked to then leave the trophy on the desk and return to their seat. The trophies will be returned to the trophy cabinet and if at any time the students want to come and see the trophy, or bring in their grandparents or other family members to see it they will be able to. This will hopefully preserve these taonga for future recipients.

Year 6 Mathex Success!
A few weeks ago, two talented Year 6 Mathex teams represented Kohimarama School at the St Kentigern Mathex competition, going head-to-head with other schools to tackle some challenging mathematical problems.
Each team had 30 minutes to solve 20 questions, with each correct answer earning 5 points. The ultimate goal was to reach 100 points before time ran out. Our incredible mathematicians rose to the challenge, showcasing their problem-solving skills and teamwork.
We are thrilled to share that Team B achieved a fantastic 2nd place overall, while Team A secured an impressive 5th place. What an outstanding result for our Year 6 Hub – well done to all participants!
Students Leaving
As we begin our classroom planning for 2025, we ask those families who have made plans and have a student who will be leaving Kohimarama School at the end of 2024 school year to complete this form. The last day of school is 17 December 2024.
Note: The form does not need to be completed for Year 8 students.
Many thanks for your support in assisting us with our advance planning.
Sports News
Returning School Sports Uniforms/Equipment Bags
All basketball and netball items can now be returned to the main school office, unless you are the 3 teams still competing in Term 4. Those teams are asked to return their equipment promptly at the conclusion of the Summer competition. There is a bin located at reception to place the gear in, and no need to name items as these all have an identification number recorded.
Auckland University Cricket Club 6 a side Festival
3 teams represented Kohimarama School at the AUCC 6 a side event at Colin Maiden Park on Tuesday/Wednesday last week, each team played 4 games against local schools. Another very successful day for the school. As a festival, the main emphasis was on participation, however scores were kept and our teams were the highest scoring team in each and every game they played. Thanks to parent Rob for coaching both the Yr 3 Boys and the Yr 6 Boys teams, and big brother Tom for coaching the Yr 5 Boys team.
AUCC have made the following generous offer.
We are excited to offer a promotion for the upcoming Post-Xmas season (February 14th – March 28th). If you put together a school team and register before December 20th, your team will play for FREE for Post-Xmas period! Please note, teams are still more than welcome to register after this date. If you register after December 20th you receive 50% off your registration.
For more information on this, please contact Le-Shur at community@aucc.co.nz.

Colour Splash Frequently Asked Questions
If you haven't got your ticket yet, purchase this on Kindo. Discounted early bird price of just
$15 finishes 25 November 2024, from 26 November there will be a small price rise.
Q: What is this ‘Colour’ event all about? A: It is our own special Kohimarama School Colour Splash. There is a short course with some obstacles to get over, under and around, and some colour powder stations along the way. The event is rain or shine - if it rains it’s even more fun as the colour sticks better!
Q: Who can enter? A: Anyone can enter, you can enter the children, parents, bring the extended family along and even the neighbours. You don’t need to be a Kohimarama student to get involved.
Q: Can we run with our friends? A: Yes absolutely. Just stand with your friends at the start line and you can participate together. If your kids are Y0-2, we ask that an adult or older sibling runs with them from a health and safety point of view. Kids love to see parents getting involved too.
Q: What happens after I finish the course? A: We encourage all school families to join us on the field for a group colour throw and then for a picnic. We will be selling sausages plus a huge amount of delicious home baking at the Bake Sale.
Q: I’ve got an older child who would like to help marshal. How do they get in touch? A: Please ask them to email us – kohiPTAchair@gmail.com. We are happy to provide community service sign off if needed.
Q: I am not a runner, will I still be able to participate? A: Definitely! All challenges are on school grounds, so not big distances to cover. Walking, skipping, hopping or dancing along the route is fine as long as you are having fun.
Q: How do I get my white t-shirt? A: Purchase your ticket before Monday 2 December and have
your race pack (t-shirt) delivered to your child’s classroom prior to race day.
If you have any questions regarding anything you have read, please feel free to reach out to your class coordinator or directly to the PTA on kohiptachair@gmail.com.
