A Message from Cowley Team
Cowley Team’s swimming lessons have been making quite a splash with the kids! Each group has been working on exciting new skills. Henry and Ruby are mastering freestyle, Finn is learning to float and tackle breaststroke, and Tessa is diving in with confidence. For Julia, the dolphin dives stole the show, while Logan had a blast in the boys vs girls relay, and Leo enjoyed learning breaststroke.
The students are also discovering new tricks, like swimming without goggles. “When you put your head underwater without goggles, you blink so the water doesn’t go in your eyes,” explained Maya. Betania was proud to learn the butterfly stroke, and Lexi discovered she could swim in a deep pool.
The kids loved sharing what made swimming special for them. Renee enjoyed going underwater and coming up, and thought the teachers were very kind. Sophie thought swimming was “fantastic” and thought “it was beautiful underwater.” Lexi was amazed by the sparkling water and had fun practising backstroke and frontstroke. Jack loved diving and being in the water with friends while Ollie was thrilled to swim so fast he passed a mate in the last lane! Eason summed it up simply: “I love swimming.”
From kicking to diving and everything in between, it’s clear our swimming lessons were a hit! We are excited now to get stuck back into learning, with our school Trip to Tahuna Torea coming up this week.

Final Assembly - Changes to trophies going home
A large number of our trophies have a special and specific history associated with them. In order to preserve these for future generations we have purchased two trophy cabinets, which you may have already seen in the office area. This year for Final Assembly students who receive their trophies will be given a medal and the trophy on stage, they will come off stage and have their photo taken with the trophy and medal. This allows us to honour each student individually and recognise the significant achievement or contribution they have made to Kohimarama School. By photographing each recipient we have a record for all to look back on. After the photo students will be asked to then leave the trophy on the desk and return to their seat. The trophies will be returned to the trophy cabinet and if at any time the students want to come and see the trophy, or bring in their grandparents or other family members to see it they will be able to. This will hopefully preserve these taonga for future recipients.

Celebrating the Arts Evening
We enjoyed a variety of talent last night as our performers shared their talent and year's hard work. A grateful thank you to our musical gurus who support our students and get them to make such fabulous music, thank you to:
- Sarah Witchalls and Reuben Holmes - Kapa Haka
- Sandra Stott and Nikki Badger - Senior Choir
- Jesse Sheehan, Liam Wright and Dion Xue - Bands - Woodwind and Brass
- Ben Jurisich and Mikaela Coughlan - Rock Band
Without your professional support our students would not be exposed to opportunities to learn a ne w talent and hone existing talents. We thank you for your time, patience and encouragement of our students.
Students Leaving
As we begin our classroom planning for 2025, we ask those families who have made plans and have a student who will be leaving Kohimarama School at the end of 2024 school year to complete this form. The last day of school is 17 December 2024.
Note: The form does not need to be completed for Year 8 students.
Many thanks for your support in assisting us with our advance planning.
Congratulations Carlos
Congratulations to Carlos who competed in the "Singapore International Young Pianist Competition" (SIYPC) last week, and won second prize in the NZ round, eligible to advance to the finals.

Returning School Sports Uniforms/Equipment Bags
All basketball and netball items can now be returned to the main school office, unless you are the 3 teams still competing in Term 4. Those teams are asked to return their equipment promptly at the conclusion of the Summer competition. There is a bin located at reception to place the gear in, and no need to name items as these all have an identification number recorded.

Colour Splash Frequently Asked Questions
If you haven't got your ticket yet, purchase this on Kindo. Discounted early bird price of just
$15 finishes 25 November 2024, from 26 November there will be a small price rise.
Q: What is this ‘Colour’ event all about? A: It is our own special Kohimarama School Colour Splash. There is a short course with some obstacles to get over, under and around, and some colour powder stations along the way. The event is rain or shine - if it rains it’s even more fun as the colour sticks better!
Q: Who can enter? A: Anyone can enter, you can enter the children, parents, bring the extended family along and even the neighbours. You don’t need to be a Kohimarama student to get involved.
Q: Can we run with our friends? A: Yes absolutely. Just stand with your friends at the start line and you can participate together. If your kids are Y0-2, we ask that an adult or older sibling runs with them from a health and safety point of view. Kids love to see parents getting involved too.
Q: What happens after I finish the course? A: We encourage all school families to join us on the field for a group colour throw and then for a picnic. We will be selling sausages plus a huge amount of delicious home baking at the Bake Sale.
Q: I’ve got an older child who would like to help marshal. How do they get in touch? A: Please ask them to email us – kohiPTAchair@gmail.com. We are happy to provide community service sign off if needed.
Q: I am not a runner, will I still be able to participate? A: Definitely! All challenges are on school grounds, so not big distances to cover. Walking, skipping, hopping or dancing along the route is fine as long as you are having fun.
Q: How do I get my white t-shirt? A: Purchase your ticket before Monday 2 December and have
your race pack (t-shirt) delivered to your child’s classroom prior to race day.
If you have any questions regarding anything you have read, please feel free to reach out to your class coordinator or directly to the PTA on kohiptachair@gmail.com.
Working Bee
A massive thank you to both Caroline Casey and Tamara Bartlett for organising and running yet another successful working bee. Your support and efforts throughout the school are greatly appreciated. We would also like to wish Tamara and her family well in their next endeavours. You will be greatly missed. Thank you on behalf of the PTA for the time and energy you have given our school community.
