A Message from Hillary Team
This year's sleepover was a big success. Everyone enjoyed the team activities like orienteering as well as the delicious food. Here is what some Year 4’s had to say about this amazing event:
- “The sleepover was so much fun. The games were awesome and so was the shared dinner. It was a bit hard to sleep but it was worth it. I wish I could do it again”. Phoebe Room 14
- “The night orienteering was really fun because we got to go everywhere, even places we can’t usually go like Kiri” . Leo Room 14
- “It was really cool and I had great time! I enjoyed the food and the night activities but it was kind of hard to fall asleep because it was not as comfortable as my own bed.” Kuba Room 14
The Kohimarama Way - Commitment (Manawanui)
Commitment is thinking carefully about what you want to do, deciding to do it, then giving it 100%, holding nothing back. you don't allow problems to stop you. You go the extra mile. You only make promises you can keep. Being a committed friend is choosing your friends wisely, then sticking together through good times or bad. Commitment makes you trustworthy. It leads you to success.
Student Fundraiser - Friday 1st November
We are raising funds for the charity 'Make a Wish' which supports children with a wish as they endure painful illnesses. We encourage all students to participate by wearing mufti (weekend clothes) and bringing $2. Students may want to dress up as what they 'wish' to be when they grow up.
Athletics Day
Our final major school sporting event for 2024, Athletics Day, is scheduled to take place at Glover Park on Monday November 11.This event is for Years 4 -8.
We need some parent volunteers to assist with the day, timing races etc.
If you are available, please email Don at dforbes@kohimarama.school.
Celebrating the Arts Evening - Monday 25th November @ 6.45 pm
This is a fun evening when we celebrate the hard work and commitment of our students involved in Band, Rock Band, Senior Choir and Kapa Haka. They and their leaders have been working hard all year and this evening allows us to listen to how far they have come. Performance is an important aspect of all students' learning and this evening affords our students another opportunity to practise this. All families are welcome to come and enjoy.
Year 4 Sleepover
Thank you to our Hillary Team teachers for their commitment in ensuring our Year 4 students had a fabulous opportunity to practise their resilience by staying over the night in the hall and library for their annual Sleepover - what a great bunch. It couldn't have happened without their sense of fun, great planning and commitment to our students. We are incredibly fortunate to have teachers of your calibre supporting our students, thank you.
These students' teams came 1st, 2nd and 3rd in making the longest strip of paper from one A4 sheet of paper, scissors and a glu stick. First place team had cut their paper so thin it reached from one side of Room 19 all the way to the far side of Room 20 - winners!
Year 5 EPRO8
Last week, two of our year 5 teams competed at the EPRO8 interschool heats held at Remuera Intermediate.
The EPRO Engineers built an air conditioning vent and then moved onto the washing machine task putting them in 4th place. Team Engineering Inc focused on the washing machine and finished in 7th overall.
Congratulations to both teams; Casey, Declan, Robbie, Aiden, Rian, Bodie, Ben and Oliver.

Working Bee
Lets come together on Sunday 24th November and tidy up our beautiful school grounds. A list of jobs will be sent out through your class coordinators in due course. Please pop your name against any job that interests you. We will gather for a BYO picnic on the field at the end of the day to celebrate our hard work!
“If you are able to join us at the Working Bee, please send an email to kohiptachair@gmail.com with number of people pitching in to help us with planning.”
AVAILABLE POSITIONS - GARDENING CLUB LEADER ROLES
It is with a heavy heart that we will be saying goodbye to Tamara who has led and run the Gardening Committee for the PTA for a number of years. She has transformed many spaces within the school grounds and coordinated many activities which have ensured the school grounds have been kept to a wonderful standard.
If you have green fingers and enjoy the great outdoors, this could be right up your alley.
The role could be taken up by one or more individuals. No gardening experience is needed. You will work with Maree Worth who is head of environment at the school. Each Wednesday, 1pm – 1.40pm, weather permitting, you will guide children through planting and tending to the gardens across the school. We have lots of passionate gardeners at school and it would be great to keep this lunchtime activity going.
Tamara will leave at the end of term 4 but would love to show the ropes to anyone interested. Please feel free to contact Tamara (tamarachristie21@hotmail.com) with any questions on the role or if you are keen to step into the role.

If you have any questions regarding anything you have read, please feel free to reach out to your class coordinator or directly to the PTA on kohiptachair@gmail.com. We will answer you via our newsletter section each week. No question is a silly one, so don't hold back!
Thank you to each of you for all you do! We wouldn’t be able to provide the services and events to the children and the School community without your involvement in the creation and the attendance of them!
