A Message from the Principal
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Reminder
We have Bizzy Bodz available to support families on the upcoming Teacher Only Day on Tuesday 29th October. Bizzy Bodz are our Before and After School Care provider and will support our community when Teacher Only Days are scheduled. You can book into the programme here
Structured Literacy and the Revised Draft English Curriculum at Kohimarama School
At Kohimarama School, we are closely aligned with the changes outlined in the Revised Draft English Curriculum. A key focus of these changes is the structured literacy approach which emphasises explicit, systematic and sequential teaching of literacy. This ensures that students are not only mastering the basics, like letter–sound relationships, syllable patterns, and morphemes, but are also engaging in cumulative practice and ongoing review.

The Kohimarama Way - Commitment (Manawanui)
Without commitment, we just drift along, with no idea where we are going. We change our minds. We give up easily if things get too hard. We break our word. We give up on people we care about if they disappoint us or make a mistake. When we are committed, people can count on us to keep our promises. With commitment we can achieve great things.

Bizzy Bodz will be open to families needing care for the scheduled teacher only day on Tuesday 29th October.
Come and join us for a day full of arts, crafts, baking, games and sports!!!

Student Fundraiser - Friday 1st November
We are raising money for Make a Wish which is a charity that supports very sick children with a wish to help them through their challenging time. We encourage all students to participate by bringing $2 and wearing mufti (weekend clothes) or wearing clothes that will show what they wish to be when they grow up.
Athletics Day
Our final major school sporting event for 2024, Athletics Day, is scheduled to take place at Glover Park on Monday November 11.This event is for Years 4 -8.
We need some parent volunteers to assist with the day, timing races etc.
If you are available, please email Don at dforbes@kohimarama.school.
Celebrating the Arts Evening - Monday 25th November @ 6.45 pm
This is a fun evening when we celebrate the hard work and commitment of our students involved in Band, Rock Band, Senior Choir and Kapa Haka. They and their leaders have been working hard all year and this evening allows us to listen to how far they have come. Performance is an important aspect of all students' learning and this evening affords our students another opportunity to practise this. All families are welcome to come and enjoy.

Second week of term!
The sun has been shining. Bring on summer!
WALKING SCHOOL BUS
Last Thursday afternoon some teachers and parents had a great meeting with Auckland Transport (AT) about re-establishing some Walking School Bus routes to Kohimarama School. Many thanks to those of you who could make it.
As mentioned during the meeting, AT has taken away the details of those who attended and were interested in helping the walking school bus. From there, our contact at AT will confirm the relevant routes. If you would be keen to join any of the routes listed below, please reach out to Delia directly on Delia.Matthias@at.govt.nz and she will link you in from there. It is a well run and supported program and a range of incentives to keep our Tamariki interested and a great leadership program available for our older Tamariki to get involved in.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Delia or the PTA and we will be happy to help.
AVAILABLE POSITIONS - GARDENING CLUB LEADER ROLES
It is with a heavy heart that we will be saying goodbye to Tamara who has led and run the Gardening Committee for the PTA for a number of years. She has transformed many spaces within the school grounds and coordinated many activities which have ensured the school grounds have been kept to a wonderful standard.
If you have greenfingers and enjoy the great outdoors, this could be right up your alley.
The role could be taken up by one or more individuals. No gardening experience is needed. You will work with Maree Worth who is head of environment at the school. Each Wednesday, 1pm – 1.40pm, weather permitting, you will guide children through planting and tending to the gardens across the school. We have lots of passionate gardeners at school and it would be great to keep this lunchtime activity going.
Tamara will leave at the end of term 4 but would love to show the ropes to anyone interested. Please feel free to contact Tamara (tamarachristie21@hotmail.com) with any questions on the role or if you are keen to step into the role.
