A Message from the Principal
Dear Parents
As we reach the halfway point of the year, I wanted to take a moment to update you on the exciting events and achievements here at our school.
Firstly, I am thrilled to report the tremendous success of musical programmes. These were restarted this year to meet a need expressed by our parents to provide a broader musical programme alongside piano, guitar and drums. Clarinet, saxophone, trumpet and flute have all been underway since term 1 this year. Last night a performance was held by students as a celebration of talent but also a testament to the hard work and dedication of our students. Thank you to all who attended and supported these wonderful events.
In addition to our musical celebrations, we have been actively engaged in a variety of sporting activities. One notable highlight has been our participation in Ki-o-Rahi, a traditional Māori ball game that promotes teamwork and physical activity. It's been fantastic to see our students embrace this cultural sport with such enthusiasm. This was held with Orakei, Stonefields and St Thomas Schools.
Last week we undertook our annual Matariki hikoi to Kohimarama Beach. This event not only allows our students to connect with nature (Kaitiakitanga, our term 2 theme across the school) but also provides an opportunity to reflect on the significance of Matariki and its cultural importance. Following the hikoi, we gathered for a delicious breakfast fostering a sense of community and celebration.
Academically, our focus remains on continuous learning and growth. Students are actively engaged in their learning. Thank you for your continued support of your child’s educational journey. Remember that Kohimarama School operates an open door policy where you can reach out to their teachers if you have any questions or concerns.
Thank you for your ongoing support and involvement in our school community. Together, we are creating a nurturing environment where every student can thrive and succeed within our Kohimarama Way.
In week 2 of term 3, Thursday 8th August, there will be optional learner conference opportunities between parents, students and teachers. Bookings will be available early next term, the Office will email you the link.
I hope you all have a wonderful break with your families and we will see you all back at school on Monday 22nd July.

The Kohimarama Way - Reliable
Reliability could be thought of as the 'uncool' value, the one that particular types of people are prone to - the goodie goods, the rule followers, etc. Take a moment to think back to the last argument or disagreement you had with your partner, or one of your children or workmate/colleague. I bet it was based on something that 'wasn't done' or done in a slapdash way. Reliability is the glue that makes families, teams, organisations, classes, and friendships work.
Cans of Food Appeal - thank you :-)
What a great collection of food you sent in via your child/ren to support people who are going through tough times at the moment. Your generosity has been gratefully received and will be well used by those in need. Thanks to the students in the photo, our Student Councillors and House Team Captains who collected them from classrooms and packaged them into the boxes that you can see.
Piano Concert
Congratulations to Rebecca and her students who performed last Monday in front of their parents and families. It was a grand occasion with students dressing in their 'best' clothes as they played their chosen pieces to the best of their ability. It was a pleasure to listen and be awed by our students' talent.
Congratulations Allie V!
A big congratulations to Allie V for being awarded the top mark internationally in her contemporary dance exam that she undertook last year. The results were awarded earlier this year and Allie also received a scholarship. (The award covers anyone sitting the syllabus world-wide!) Allie is passionate about dance and dances a lot, competing regularly in Solo Ballet competitions and in a Lyrical troupe with a couple of other Kohimarama students including her sister and a classmate. Well done once again Allie! Your dedication, hard work and love of dance and performing is paying off!
Term 3 Student Fundraiser for Starship Hospital
Our Student Councillors believe that many of our students will visit Starship Hospital during their childhood and are keen to support the hospital for this reason. On Friday 2nd August students who are participating, will be able to wear clothes that are not school uniform and bring $2. If students want they can bring along a cuddly toy, which we all need when we are sick and in need of extra care. Please put this date in your diary.
Kohimarama School Book Fair 2024
Back by popular demand, and in partnership with Scholastic, we will be hosting a Book Fair in the Library at Kohimarama School again this year! All details are on the flyer below.
We will have hundreds of books for sale - new, bestsellers and classics - for readers of all ages. Bring your friends, whanau, greats and grans, all are welcome!
Eftpos is preferred, but cash sales are available. Geronimo Stilton and another surprise guest will be making appearances over the course of the week, lots to look forward to!
We will be looking for some cashiers and costume wearers to assist with the Book Fair. A roster will be sent out first week of next term for you to sign up.
Parent Help- School Cross-Country 2024

We do require some parents to assist with the event. If you are available to help out on one or both of these days, please email dforbes@kohimarama.
Matariki - Orakei Bay Village
We are thrilled to announce that your child's hard work will be showcased at Ōrākei Bay Village, alongside ākonga from Stonefields School, Ōrākei School, and St Thomas's School. Just like last year, we are coming together to celebrate Matariki and share our learning with the community.
