A Message from the Principal
Dear Parents and Caregivers
I am proud to share some highlights of our commitment to successful teaching and learning at Kohimarama School.
Teaching the Basics Well: Our commitment to teaching the basics well ensures that every student develops a solid foundation in literacy, numeracy, and critical thinking skills. This strong start enables them to thrive and attain academic success and lifelong learning.
Diverse Learning Opportunities: Our commitment to providing multidimensional opportunities for learning goes beyond traditional methods. We embrace creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving, empowering our students to thrive in a complex world. Our students also engage in hands-on activities, real-world projects, and digital learning experiences that prepare them for the challenges of the future.
Accelerating Learning and Individual Pathways: Our focus remains on the needs of each student, continually accelerating learning and developing individual learning pathways. We address gaps in learning through targeted interventions and personalised support.
Aligning with Educational Directions: Kohimarama School stays abreast of current educational directions in New Zealand by implementing a knowledge-rich curriculum grounded in the science of learning. We use evidence-based strategies in early literacy and mathematics instruction, ensuring that our teaching methods are effective and impactful.
Monitoring Progress and Achievement: Consistent modes of monitoring student progress and achievement ensure that we track and celebrate every student's growth and accomplishments. SchoolTalk provides a 24/7 access to your child's learning and measures progress against progressions based on the New Zealand Curriculum.
Developing the Future: We are dedicated to developing a positive future for New Zealand and the Kohimarama community by providing leadership development pathways, especially in our Year 7&8 students, and equipping all our students with the skills they need to thrive in a rapidly evolving world. Our students are equipped with the skills and growth mindset necessary to lead and succeed in an ever-changing world.
Supporting Students with Additional Needs: Effective learning support interventions are targeted towards students with additional needs, ensuring that every student receives the support necessary to succeed.
Data-Driven Decision-Making: We employ consistent modes of monitoring over all student progress and achievement, using high-performing data to inform our instructional decisions. This data-driven approach enables us to track student growth, celebrate successes, and provide targeted support where needed.
Fostering Student Well-Being and Engagement: Ultimately, our goal is to create a learning environment where students are happy, enjoy learning, feel motivated and curious, work collaboratively, reflect on their growth, communicate effectively, and are assessment-capable.
I am also delighted to share that our Kohimarama students now in Year 9 continue to perform highly in secondary schools, standing out as ready and able to learn and contribute to their school and community.
As stated by a Secondary School Principal; The students (Kohimarama) at his school will be exceptionally well prepared for High School and would add value to the College.
Thank you for your ongoing support and partnership in nurturing excellence in education at Kohimarama School.
The Kohimarama Way - Reliable
When people are unreliable, others can't trust them to keep their promises. If aeroplanes, trains or buses are late, passengers can miss important appointments. If someone keeps forgetting to to do what they said they would do, they let people down. When you are reliable, people can trust you to show up on time, be where you promised to be, to put tools away, to get the job done.
Wearable Arts - Cord Donations
Kia ora!
This year we are participating in the Toi Wearable Arts Competition. We are in need of old or broken electrical cords for our garment. If you happen to have any lying around and could drop them to the office or outside room 22.
We really appreciate your support.
Thank you,
-Juliette, Charlie and Isabella.G

Pink Shirt Day - Friday 17th May
On Friday the 17th of May it's Pink Shirt Day! On this day all of our learners are invited to wear as much pink as they can. In wearing something pink, we are showing that we all are making a commitment to creating a safe and inclusive environment for all, and it also reminds us to be accepting and compassionate. In all classes, teachers will be discussing the issues concerning and the importance of being an 'upstander' rather than being a 'bystander' and the importance of being kind and accepting of one another. Let's stand up against bullying and make a wonderful pink statement on Pink Shirt Day!
