A Message from Cowley Team
We have been learning about the Zones of Regulation; green, blue, red and yellow. We've been learning the names of the emotions for example silly, excited, angry, devastated, overjoyed, ecstatic. The green zone is happy, calm and focused and we need to be in the green zone to learn. In the blue zone there is sad, tired, sick and bored. In red, it's angry, devastated, overjoyed and out of control. In the yellow zone there is silly, excited, frustrated, and worried. These zones aren't bad but we want to be in the green zone so that we can learn. There are strategies we can use to move between the zones and we have learnt some like figure 8 breathing, gentle finger tugs and tracing around our hands. One thing we noticed is the colours of the zones are the same as our house colours!
The Kohimarama Way - Honesty

Enrolments - is your child nearly 4 and half years old?
If this is you, you live in our Zone and you would like your child to attend Kohimarama School would you please get in touch with Helen O'Brien hobrien@kohimarama.school.nz to let her know and fill in an enrolment form. We must know of students who will be starting at our school in plenty of time to employ a new teacher for them.
GRIP Leadership Conference for House Captains and Student Councillors
Last Wednesday 34 of our student leaders had the opportunity to attend a one-day conference to learn more about being a leader. The day was a busy learning time looking at 4 main points:
- Stepping Up - identifying our talents as a leader and how to use them in a team
- Stepping In - Help when leaders spot a need
- Stepping Out - leaders trying something new
- Stepping Closer - Befriending those in need
Thank you to the parents who transported our students to and from the event, without you we could not have attended.
