A Message from Cowley Team
In the exciting world of science, Cowley students recently embarked on a thrilling adventure into the realm of "Superhero Forces." Armed with their newfound knowledge of forces, our budding young scientists designed gadgets that would grant them the powers of their favorite superheroes.
Tessa in Rm 17 created a boat. “It uses a water push, pull, wind power and magnetism. It can float and the wind pushes the sail. When there is no wind I can pull it, or use a balloon motor to push it. It has a magnet to clean the ocean floor.”
Conrad, James and Leo in Rm 17 invented a Whale’s Tail. “The force is a pull and gravity. When you pull the tail it hits the floor. It can hit extremely hard. It can catch robbers. It can hurt a lot!”
Aria and Spencer in Rm 8 made a butterfly creek, using the force of magnetism and pull.
Tallulah in Rm 8 made a ‘stadium’ which used the force of magnetism.
Room 6 made a range of amazing inventions using push and pull!
Hunter and Joaquim in the Year 3 Hub made a killer whale kite that works by “skimming the sky using air resistance and eats birds!”
Chloe G and Frankie in the Year 3 Hub made a ball-shooting device called 12CF. “It uses spring force and gravity. It works by pushing the spring down so the ball can go flying up in the air!!!”
Cowley team is delighted to see the incredible ideas and passion our students have put into their superhero gadgets, bridging the gap between science and imagination.
The Kohimarama Way - Compassion
"If your compassion does not include yourself, it is incomplete." Jack Kornfield. "The individual is capable of both great compassion and great indifference. He has it within his means to nourish the former and outgrow the latter." Norman Cousins.

Georgia also came to Kohimarama School as a beginning teacher 3 years ago. She too has completed a Graduate Diploma before starting at Kohimarama School as a beginning teacher. Georgia has developed her practice and has been a positive role model with children and supported them in their learning. Georgia has taught in years 4, 5 and 6 areas of the school. We wish her well in her future career. She will be missed by the students, teachers and school community.

Louise will be leaving Kohimarama School due to her mother being diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer and Louise needs to return to the UK to care for her.
Louise has made a great contribution to the school in her role as teacher. She has, this year, moved into the Year 7/8 area and made a great contribution there. We thank her for the work that she has done with our junior and senior choirs and school singing for assemblies. She will be missed by the students, teachers and school community.

Book Covering help needed..
Are you able to give a couple of hours during the week to come and cover books for our school library? We have a back log of books that need covering before our students can issue them from our Library. If you are able to support us, please contact our Librarian Claudette at cndenzako@kohimarama.school.nz
School Disco - Under the Sea
Friday November 10th is the date you don't want your students to be busy in the early evening as they will all want to be coming to our fabulous school Disco with DJ Dave for our Under the Sea themed Disco. Students are able to come in their weekend clothes or dress as something that fits our theme, all our school children are welcome. Tickets are bought via Kindo $5, this provides students with a drink and a snack and pays for DJ Dave - remember there will be no door sales on the night.

Library stocktake - all books need to be returned please by 17th November
We need to complete a stocktake of our school library which means all books need to be returned by the end of week 6 Friday 17th November. Students will still be able to visit the Library to read but no books can be issued after this. We are having a House Competition to see which House returns the most books in the shortest time. Students are asked to put their returning books in the box with their House name on it and we will do a running tally to see which team wins - Go Atkin, Colenso, Patteson and Selwyn.
