A Message from Hillary Team
It has been an exciting start to Term 4 in Hillary Team! We started off in Week 1 with an amazing author visit from a local author Adrienne Joyce. Her story is called, “Ben the Orca” based on a true story of a whale stranded on Mangawhai Beach.
This was followed by our Year 4 sleepover on Thursday the 26th of October. The Year 4 students had a wonderful evening with a shared dinner, team building activities and a scavenger hunt at school. It was the perfect opportunity to improve their collaborative skills. Here are some photos to show their experiences. Thanks to the dedication of both our teachers and parents for making this opportunity happen for our Year 4 students.
Student Reflections :-
Rhys W - I had a fun time at the sleepover and I really enjoyed the night time scavenger hunt!
Poppy M -I enjoyed the scavenger hunt and the paper chain challenge during the sleepover. My team worked well together to solve the clues. It was a fabulous experience.
Aiden R - I enjoyed the team building activities. It was a good experience being able to sleep with my friends at school too.
Nathaniel J- I really enjoyed the Lego challenge and being able to have a sleepover with all my friends. It was challenging working with different people in my group.
Romeo H - I liked the paper chain challenge and all the outdoor activities.
Aria Z - I enjoyed solving the clues for the night scavenger hunt. Working with my team during the paper chain challenge was difficult because it was hard to figure out and agree on the best strategy.
Carla P - Enjoying all the food everyone brought was a lovely start to the evening. The scavenger hunt was fun but also a bit challenging the darker it got.
Sasha M - It was lots of fun working with my team to complete the various challenges.
Emma S - I enjoyed the scavenger hunt in the dark. It was cool to have the sleepover with our friends and we couldn’t sleep because we were so excited!
Natalie Q - The food and scavenger hunt was so good! I also found the Lego challenge a lot of fun.
The Kohimarama Way - Compassion
We know we have successfully shown Compassion when: we notice when someone is hurt or needs a friend, we imagine how they must be feeling, we take the time to show that we care, we ask how they are and listen patiently, we forgive others when they make mistakes and we do some service to help a person or an animal in need.
Atkin House Colour Day
This week it was Atkin House's turn to have their Colour Day and the school was filled with green. Lots of House members joined in on the activities the Atkin House Captains led. What a fun day for Atkin House!
Some thoughts from some of the Atkin House Captains...
- The best thing about Atkin House Colour Day was seeing everyone enjoying themselves and proudly wearing their green colors - Liv
- Atkin House is the best because everyone in Atkin puts in their best effort - Lincoln
- The best thing from Atkin House Colour day was seeing everyone dressed in green and watching them have fun in the hall whilst we were running the games - Bella
- I wanted to be a House Captain because when I was young, I always looked up to them and that's what I wanted to be when I was that age - Lincoln
- Next year's House Captains should enjoy every moment, make the most of every opportunity - sadly the time goes quickly - Liv
- The best thing about Atkin House is that we are a very humble house who support others when times are hard - Bella
The Auckland City Mission - Can Appeal this week
Thank you to our families who have supported Kohimarama School's annual can of food collection, to support families and individuals in need. We are collecting cans of food all week, just bring them into class and our Student Councillors will collect them all at the end of the week - we are trying to do better than the 800 we collected in 2022.
Book Covering help needed..
Are you able to give a couple of hours during the week to come and cover books for our school library? We have a back log of books that need covering before our students can issue them from our Library. If you are able to support us, please contact our Librarian Claudette at cndenzako@kohimarama.school.nz
Student Fundraiser for Term 4 - Wednesday 8th November
Wednesday 8th November - next week we are holding a fundraiser for Pillars. This is a charity which supports children when their parents are in prison. We are encouraging our students to participate by bringing $2 and wearing their weekend clothes. If they would like to they can bring along one of their soft toys and we will take a photo of us all.
School Disco - Under the Sea
Friday November 10th is the date you don't want your students to be busy in the early evening as they will all want to be coming to our fabulous school Disco with DJ Dave for our Under the Sea themed Disco. Students are able to come in their weekend clothes or dress as something that fits our theme, all our school children are welcome. Tickets are bought via Kindo $5, this provides students with a drink and a snack and pays for DJ Dave - remember there will be no door sales on the night.
- Junior Disco Years 0-4 5.00-6.00pm
- Senior Disco Years 5-8 6.30 - 8.00 pm
Library stocktake - all books need to be returned please by 17th November
We need to complete a stocktake of our school library which means all books need to be returned by the end of week 6 Friday 17th November. Students will still be able to visit the Library to read but no books can be issued after this. We are having a House Competition to see which House returns the most books in the shortest time. Students are asked to put their returning books in the box with their House name on it and we will do a running tally to see which team wins - Go Atkin, Colenso, Patteson and Selwyn.
Photolife - Sibling Photos
Our next photolife session is on Thursday 9th November. If you would like your sibling photo taken, please complete a form at the school office by Wednesday 8th November.
