A Message from Kiri Team
Kia ora from Kiri,
Term 4!
Kiri Team has had an exciting start to the Term with two weeks of swimming lessons. The Year 1 classes travel each day to CLM The Bays where small groups of students are taught swimming skills and water safety. The whole excursion is a blast, starting with the bus! It has been fabulous seeing the students develop their skills and confidence. On Thursday we had a visit from Kori the Penguin, CLM’s mascot who has messages about keeping your family safer in, on and around water. This generated great delight.
Kiri team has had some staff changes, for our fourth term. We welcome Tayla Swart in Room 3, Debbie Ellery and Jessica Burger in Room 4 and Kelly Fraser in Room 5. They have been busy getting to know your children, setting up classes and learning about how Kiri Team runs. We wish you all a wonderful term.
As a part of our Animal Habitats Inquiry, classes in Kiri Team will be enjoying a visit from ‘Hands On Creatures’. This is where the students get to have a close up experience with reptiles, amphibians, insects, and spiders. They learn about their habitats, behaviours and special characteristics. Brian, who is the chief bug wrangler presents a fun, safe experience for all students who can look from a distance or get up close with these cute creepy crawlies!
Check out our Kiri Gardens. They had a spring clean last week and are looking just beautiful! Have a wonder through and enjoy the colour:)

Book Covering help needed..
Are you able to give a couple of hours during the week to come and cover books for our school library? We have a back log of books that need covering before our students can issue them from our Library. If you are able to support us, please contact our Librarian Claudette at cndenzako@kohimarama.school.nz
Road Patrol Parent Supervisors - still needed
Are you able to support our students on Road Patrol either, Monday morning on Rawhitiroa Road or Wednesday morning on Kohimarama Road. You would meet our Road Patrollers at 8.25 am and help them set up their signs until 8.55 am and then help them return the signs. If you are able to support us please contact Meegan on mhill@kohimarama.school.nz Thank you.
2023 Can Appeal for Auckland City Mission
In the week beginning Monday 30th October, we are asking families to bring cans of food to school as a donation for families and individuals who need support with food. If you are able to support please send 1 or 2 cans of food along with your child one day this week. Thank you.
Student Fundraiser for Term 4 - Wednesday 8th November
This term we are raising funds for the charity 'Pillars'. This charity supports children who have a parent in prison. For students who want to support our fundraiser, we are asking students to bring $2 and they do not need to come to school that day in uniform - students can wear their own weekend clothes. Additionally, if students wish to, they can bring a soft toy to school and we will get a photo of us all.
School Disco - Friday 10th November
Our theme this year is Under the Sea, students are able to wear anything theme-related or their usual weekend clothes. The cost is $5, which covers the cost of DJ Dave and ensures all students have a drink and a snack during the disco.
- Junior Disco Years 0-4 = 5.00-6.00pm
- Senior Disco Years 5 - 8 = 6.30 - 8.00 pm
As Hillary team are composite, Year 4/5 classes students are able to go to the disco that most of their friends will be attending i.e. a Year 4 student who has most of their friends in Year 5 will come to the Senior disco and vice versa. Tickets will be on sale via Kindo from Monday 30 October and close Thursday 9 November. We will not be able to do door sales, so please get tickets via Kindo.
Photolife - Sibling Photos
Our next photolife session is on Thursday 9th November. If you would like your sibling photo taken, please complete a form at the school office by Wednesday 8th November.
MESSAGE FROM THE PTA SECOND-HAND UNIFORM COORDINATOR
Our on-going second-hand uniform sales strive to:
- Lighten our impact on the environment by extending the life of school uniforms
- Make presentable uniform pieces accessible at a range of prices
- Raise money to support PTA efforts across Kohimarama School
To further the above objectives, we are making 'okay' quality (presentable but have an obvious flaw) uniform items available for sale at a deep discount in addition to our usual 'excellent' (minimal, if any sign of wear) and 'good' (minor imperfection) items. You can always access the full inventory and place orders on the website.
We are only able to support our school community this way through your generous donation of surplus and outgrown uniforms. Donations are welcomed in the uniform cupboard in the school office during office hours (8:30am to 3:30pm).
Questions? Email Amanda at uniforms@kohimarama.school.nz.
