School Newsletter - 9th August 2023
A Message from Hillary Team
We have had an interesting start to term 3 with the arrival of our international students! Our team has enjoyed learning about different cultures and sharing our experiences with new friends.
“Hats off to reading” day was awesome! Students wore their funky and cool hats to school, each telling their own story. We are learning how our reading impacts our writing and many of us are trying to expand the genres we choose to read.
Our school raised a good amount of money for Red Nose Day and we all enjoyed dressing up in as much red as possible! It was an important day to show people we care and a way to help others.
It has been insightful working with our international friends, especially during Mathematical word problems and rich tasks. Some strategies that we have learned are different to those they use and vice versa. Being school buddies has also helped us grow our communication skills and Kohimarma values of friendship and compassion. We will miss those students leaving this week and wish them a fabulous trip back home.
Our recent trip to Kelly Tarltons was both educational and lots of fun. We learned so much about the animals that live in our surrounding oceans and met some really wonderful creatures. Penguin feeding was a highlight for many of us and we were introduced to all the penguins by name! We now have a bank of knowledge to help us begin our inquiry this term.
The Kohimarama Way - Respect
6 ways we can be respectful ...
- Listen and be present.
- Be thoughtful of others' feelings.
- Acknowledge others and say thank you.
- Address mistakes with kindness.
- Make decisions based on what's right, not who you like.
- Respect physical boundaries.
