School Newsletter - 2nd August 2023
A Message from Kiri Team
Kia ora from Kiri,
Welcome back to Term 3!
What a lovely start to the term we have had! All the children were so excited to see
each other and share their holiday adventures. There was a lot of smiling and hugging
happening!
So far this term we have been focusing on story writing and artwork. There are many
beautiful stories that have been carefully written and illustrated. These have been
published and are displayed in different classrooms. We have included some of Room
three’s stories for you to enjoy.
If you walk into Room 4 you will see some stunning artwork hanging in the sky, showing
children climbing ladders to the stars. This art was part of our learning about Matariki
and was very engaging.
Room 1 and 2 has been doing still life sunflower pencil sketching with Mrs Jacques.
These individual works of art would have made Vincent van Gogh proud:)
We are pleased about our new school fence and our Kiri Gardens are being prepared
for spring planting.

The Kohimarama Way - Respect
Think about how you would like others to treat you and treat them with the same dignity. How would you like others to speak to you, treat your belongings, and your right to privacy? If you want to use someone else's things, ask, and then take good care of them. Express even your strongest feelings in a peaceful way. Treat yourself as you feel others deserve to be treated. You deserve it too!
Red Nose Day - Thank you :-)
Thank you to all students and teachers who participated in our Red Nose day last Friday, we raised over $800 and students really entered into the spirit, dressing in as much red as possible. One of our students was totally committed and painted their face red - very impressive. Your support for our fundraising is very much appreciated and goes along way to funding research into child cancer. Enjoy the photos.

Kohimarama School Ambassadors visiting Mission Bay Kindergarten - Thursday 27th July 2023
I enjoyed going to the Kindy and playing in the sandpit with Reya and Noah. We dug a huge hole, I was on the digger, and we buried a spoon - hidden treasure! We used the gliders and went down the ramp, I fell off. When I was on the ground one of the children was behind me on a bike and he just missed me - phew! Jacob
I enjoyed going to the kindergarten because all the kids were very nice. I enjoyed going down the ramp on the gliders even though I fell off a couple of times. I was very surprised about how high the kids could go on the swings. Indie was cute and it was good listening to all the things that she could eat - someone told me she likes bananas, is this true? Noa
I really enjoyed my time at the kindergarten because all the kids at my table were really friendly. Lots of the kids wanted to show me things such as, doing the obstacle course, swinging really high and the rabbit, Indie. It was really cool playing in the sandpit with everyone, especially playing with the digger. Lily

The year 5/6 team; Amy, Allie, Zara and Freya placed 6th.
The year 6 team; Jeffrey, Leo, Freddie and Isaac placed 1st (and scored a notable 400 points - higher than the scoring at even the Intermediate level). They will progress to the semi-finals in September.
