School Newsletter - 26th June 2023
A Message from the Principal
Dear Parents
Insight into Learning
The students and teachers would like to invite parents to visit their class/team to gain an insight into learning.
These days are designed for our current school parents to see, hear and feel how the school is supporting students learning within and across our learning environment.
Our school Local Curriculum, the way that we teach and learn, our essence statements about curriculum etc. are all available on our website at this address How we learn
In the dropdown on this page, you will be able to explore the learning philosophy etc. Please take time to review this and feel free to ask questions when you come to the Insights into Learning days.
The following table sets out when these insight into learning opportunities will be available for your child's area of the school.

Red Nose Day
Reminder that this Friday is Red Nose Day (28th July) - we are raising funds for research into child cancer. We are asking students to come dressed in as much red as possible and bring $2.We look forward to the school being a sea of red.
International Students
Our international students are enjoying school and I owe a huge thanks to our amazing teachers and our fabulous students for welcoming them to our school and demonstrating our school values of friendship and respect. Thank you Kohimarama community.
Net Safety Week 2023
We wish you a warm welcome back to school for Term 3 and hope you are ready for an exciting Term ahead. Net Safety Week runs from 24 - 30 July. It's a chance to make sure we all have the tools and resources to make safe and informed choices online. Collectively and individually, we can make a huge difference. This year's theme for Net Safety Week 2023 is:
Arming Aotearoa with the tools for positive online experiences
We’ve gone from a shared computer in the lounge with dial-up to personal devices small enough to fit in our back pocket or wrist, offering us endless connectivity and possibilities. With that connectivity, however, comes responsibility - responsibility to use and optimise the opportunities available online while ensuring everyone has a safe and enjoyable experience.
The Kohimarama Way - Respect
Without respect for rules, we would have confusion. People would treat each other rudely and violate each other's privacy and other rights. Respect helps people to feel valued. Elders deserve special respect because they have lived longer and learned many of life's lessons. Self-respect is making sure no one hurts you or abuses you, even an elder. When you respect yourself, others respect you too.
Red Nose Day - This Friday
A reminder that on Friday this week, 28th July we are raising funds for research into Child Cancer. We are encouraging all participants - students and staff to wear as much red as they can and contribute $2 to our fundraising appeal. We have been given a box of 'goodies' from Red Nose day organisers and will be giving out prizes for those in the most red. Plus everyone who wears red, there will be something for you too.

Take your hat off to Reading
Eastern Zone Girls Netball Tournament
On Monday July 24, Kohimarama School was represented at the Eastern Zone event by our Yr 7 team, and our Yr 8 team. This was a very large event with 16 schools attending and 38 girls teams participating across 4 separate competitions at the Auckland Netball Centre in St Johns
Our Yr 7 team did win 2 out their 4 games in pool play, but just missed out on being able to proceed to the knockout phase of their event.
The Yr 8 team won all their 4 games in the pool stage, and went on to win both their semi final and final, and were worthy winners, topping a field of 11 teams in their competition.
Many thanks to our coach/managers Steve and Amber. Our drivers Sue and Andrew, and our umpires from Glendowie College, Lucy and Poppy, and the parents who were able to come along and see some of the games.
Enrolments – 2023/2024
As we start our 2024 planning, if you have a child due to start at Kohimarama School in the next 18 months, please assist us by completing a pre-enrolment form
If you have already completed this we will have a record of your child. If you are currently living out of the school zone and have a sibling turning 5 in the next 12 months, please inform the office office@kohimarama.
